Is Biotin the answer to my thinning hair?
Biotin is a B vitamin often recommended for hair health. Biotin has many claims that if taken in a pill form or used in hair products, it can thicken hair, stimulate hair growth, and give you healthier nails and skin.
Biotin is an essential vitamin. What that means is that your body needs this micronutrient to function properly. The biotin you consume in foods helps your body to turn the food you eat into energy. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough evidence to say if biotin is effective for hair loss.
Hair loss can be a symptom of biotin deficiency, so biotin supplementation has been said to benefit people with hair loss or thinning hair who have a biotin deficiency. But this deficiency isn’t the only cause of thinning hair or hair loss. And sometimes too many supplements in your body can actual have the opposite effect you were looking for. Some of the main reasons for hair loss are from things we don’t think about when dealing with this struggle.
Ask yourself the following questions:
Have you made a diet change recently? This could be as simple as lowering your daily calories. This could also be as significant as chosing a keto or vegan diet, which your body was not used to.
Have you had any surgery in the last 5 years?
Have you had a change in medication?
Are you pregnant or have you recently had a baby?
Do you have any hormone disrupting or auto-immune diseases?
Has anyone else in my family had to go through this?
